Two-Story Addition in Takoma Park, Maryland

In the heat of COVID, this couple (who both worked from home) found themselves needing additional space for a home office and a primary suite bathroom. They have a beautiful backyard facing Long Branch Park in Takoma Park, but weren’t able to enjoy it because of the mosquitoes. A lovely screened porch and deck solved this problem. We constructed a two-story addition adding a home office on the first floor with an adjacent sliding door to the deck. A mudroom was added as well as a new front porch extending the length of the home for enjoying the neighborhood kids and dogs passing by. The home owner had impeccable taste with the primary bathroom finishes. Large casement windows were added so that they can soak and enjoy the bird songs from Long Branch Park just steps away.

While the footprint of the room was unchanged, we replaced the existing Crystal cabinets with all new custom-painted Keyline inset, moved and replaced all appliances, and did minor structural changes. From demo-day to using the kitchen was 4 weeks!

Zen Renovations worked with this homeowner on a second project, following their primary bathroom remodel. Our goal was to create a flexible living space for the growing family.
