high-functioning layout. The project centered on a significant structural relocation where we moved the entrance to the basement stairwell and sealed the original rear door to resolve a circulation knot that had long compromised the home’s flow. This pivot allowed us to extend the cabinetry into a deep U-shaped configuration with a peninsula that now serves as the primary social bridge to the rest of the house. To restore the connection to the garden, we installed expansive French doors in the living room, shifting the home’s main exit to a new backyard landing. By integrating new hardwoods and modernizing the electrical and plumbing systems within the original wood-frame footprint, we achieved an open, purposeful kitchen that respects the 1941 character of the home while supporting the pace of a modern household.
