"We worked with Kevin and the team at Zen on a major renovation to our 1920s house, which added a second story with three bedrooms and a bath as well as a new roof, HVAC, siding, and structural work to the main part of the house. Throughout the project, the Zen team was professional, did amazing work, and was a pleasure to work with. Like any major project to an old house, there were some surprises along the way, but Kevin and the team did a good job of laying out various options and communicating the pros and cons of each path. Of all the new rooms in the house, everyone’s favorite seems to be the upstairs bathroom for the kids. The team did flawless work on the tiling, was solid with the plumbing, and framed out all of the nooks and towel bars to ensure strong backing. They added a skylight for good measure and separate spaces for the shower and a water closet. I would definitely recommend Zen for both smallish projects and large ones."

They are creative, considerate, and available to answer any question, no matter how small. When they ran into unexpected issues (old house!) they came to me right away and worked with me to find solutions and alternatives within my budget. The crews were always on time, and worked through terrible weather to stay on schedule. I lived in the house during renovations and they were consistently considerate and left the worksite immaculate every evening. No detail was too small for their attention: the crew moved a heavy piece of furniture for me and then even “shimmed” it to be level in my (old house) sloping floor. Cannot recommend Zen enough!"

We found the entire team — designer, project manager, and the hands-on tradespeople — to be thoughtful, detail oriented, and a pleasure to work with. Everyone has a nightmare contractor story, and the fact that we don’t have one is something we love to share. Compared to renovations we’d seen with family, our project was seamless and stayed on budget.

"Zen Renovations did a wonderful job for us. We wanted to be able to have a view of our backyard from the kitchen. In order to accomplish this Zen Renovations redesigned our kitchen, removed part of the wall between the kitchen and the family room and put in a new kitchen island. As part of our home renewal they also installed a new LVP floor throughout the first floor of our house. We can’t say enough about the craftsmanship and professionalism of their crew. They did very complicated work of cutting and reinstalling our granite counter top and matching existing cabinets. Also they did the work within their timeframe of 3 weeks! We are very happy and highly recommend them."

"Zen Renovations helped us plan and then carried out in 2021 a full kitchen-dining room remodel in our 1930s Cape Cod. The entire team, from the owner, project manager/designer, to the various trades and workers they managed, were professional, diligent, and considerate. We had a challenging problem with two load-bearing walls, one of which we wanted removed. Zen did the engineering analysis and replaced it with an LVL beam, resulting in a delightfully open and much larger space. They planned and executed in a timely manner even with supply-chain issues caused by the pandemic. We highly recommend Zen Renovations."

Zen Renovations have by far been the best and easiest to work with. "The Zen Renovations team did a full ground floor remodel of our house, which included expanding the kitchen to an open model concept and entirely replacing the existing cabinetry, appliances, and tile; replacing hardwood floors; replacing windows; replacing doors; and putting in new lighting. They worked with us throughout the design process, provided realistic inputs and talked us out of some limiting decisions. They built, and were forthright about, a timeline that accounted for significant supply chain issues beyond their control, and were communicative throughout the entire project. The real test for me was their attention to detail. They had specialists for every stage—tile, woodwork, painting—and everything was done right, even things I wouldn’t have thought about.

"The Zen team renovated a bathroom that had very old plumbing and a few hidden conditions (a rotted joist) that are common in older DC homes. The communication about design choices, project schedule and required change orders was clear and timely. I work from home and have a toddler so they kept the house very clean throughout demo and construction. Most importantly, the quality of work is impressive and it is evident that each team member takes pride in their work and enjoys what they do. As an example, we wanted to maintain the historical charm of the bathroom - so rather than swap out the old non-functional bathroom door for a new modern one they found the same style of door at a salvage shop and restored it with a fresh coat of paint and functional doorknob and lock. This was above and beyond my expectations. We already hired Zen again for our next project."

We lived here with a one-year-old and a four-year-old during the renovation, and they loved saying hi to the crews every day. The design process was easy—they took a lot of the research and time out of the decision-making process, and the price was very reasonable for the services provided.
