Junior Designer
We are seeking a talented and creative Junior Interior Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the design and renovation of the interior of homes in the Washington, DC area with a focus on kitchens, bathrooms, and basements. The Junior Designer will work closely with senior designers to ensure exceptional results. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to develop their skills in interior design and gain valuable industry experience.

Zen Renovations is an award-winning Design/Build remodeling firm serving residential clients in the DMV. We were ranked the City Paper DC Best Contractor for 2023/2024. Our services include kitchen, bathroom, and basement renovations. We have 2 design studios in the DMV in Takoma Park and Capitol Hill showcasing our kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, hardware, and countertop offerings. Our full-time staff receive 4 weeks of paid vacation, company paid health care, and a retirement plan with company contribution. You must like dogs - we have three of them in the office.

Major Responsibilities
- Assist in selecting materials and finishes, including lighting design and color theory considerations
- Work closely with contractors and suppliers to ensure accurate installation and delivery of design elements
- Collaborate with senior designers to develop design concepts and plans for residential and commercial spaces
- Conduct site visits to assess spaces and gather information to inform design decisions

- Conduct feasibility studies to determine the practicality of design concepts
- Assist in the renovation and installation of design elements, including coordination with contractors

Skills
- Strong understanding of interior design concepts
- Incredibly detail-oriented
- A "people person" that likes to work in a collaborative environment
- Experience with Chief Architect software a bonus
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- At least 3 years of design experience

Architectural Designer
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Architectural Designer with a strong focus on construction drawing preparation to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate and comprehensive construction documents that are essential for the successful realization of our architectural projects. You will collaborate closely with architectrural designers, engineers, and other team members to ensure that all drawings meet project specifications, building codes, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed construction drawings and documentation for various architectural projects, including residential buildings.
- Collaborate with architectural designers. and engineers to understand project requirements, design intent, and technical specifications.
- Prepare architectural plans, elevations, sections, and details that accurately convey design intent and construction requirements.
- Ensure all drawings comply with relevant building codes, zoning laws, and industry standards.
- Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) consultants to integrate their designs into the architectural drawings.
- Revise and update drawings based on client feedback, project changes, or regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including specifications, schedules, and material lists.
- Conduct site visits as needed to gather information, verify conditions, and ensure that construction aligns with the design intent.
- Maintain organized and accurate drawing files and project records for easy access and communication within the team.
About Your Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in architectural design with a strong emphasis on construction drawing preparation.
- Proficiency in Chief Architect software a plus. We use this exclusively.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and materials.
- Excellent technical drawing skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 3D modeling and rendering software.
- Professional licensure or progress towards licensure (e.g., ARE exams).
- Experience in managing or leading the preparation of construction documents.
