Calacatta Clad
This project redesigned a Bethesda kitchen and two bathrooms through a language of warm wood tones, soft neutral finishes, and intentional ergonomics. The original kitchen layout was physically constricting, with narrow paths and high-reach storage that made daily use a challenge. By removing the peninsula’s bulk and widening the primary walkway, we established a clear sightline that runs from the entry straight through to the backyard. The design is centered on the ergonomics of reach and interaction. A custom peninsula features a lowered work surface and a drop-down dining counter, allowing the couple to face one another while they dine without obstructing the path through the home. To ensure the space remains effortless to navigate, we utilized a panel-front refrigerator with a top-mounted compressor to keep every shelf within reach, paired with a built-in toe-kick ladder. This "quiet alignment" continues through the materials: Calacatta Ottone quartz flows from the countertops up the backsplash and the custom hood in one uninterrupted line. The narrative extends into two bathrooms that mirror the kitchen’s focus on ease. One features a serene lavender and marble palette, while the other utilizes soft blue tones; both balance crisp finishes with warm wood and gold accents to create a unified, restorative environment.
